Common Dryer Problems We Fix

Dryer not heating. The most frequent call we get. Usually a blown thermal fuse, a failed heating element on electric units, or a bad igniter or gas valve coil on gas units.

Dryer won’t start. Often a failed door switch, a bad start switch, a broken thermal fuse, or a worn motor.

Clothes taking two or three cycles to dry. Almost always restricted airflow — a clogged vent line, a lint-packed blower housing, or a crushed exhaust duct behind the machine. Worth fixing beyond the inconvenience.

Loud squealing or rumbling. Typically worn drum rollers, a failed idler pulley, or bad drum glides. The noise gets worse until something breaks.

Drum not turning. Usually a snapped drive belt — one of the cheaper repairs on the list.

Dryer shuts off mid-cycle. Often overheating from restricted airflow, or a failing thermostat cutting power as a safety measure.

Burning smell. Stop using it and call. This usually means lint buildup near the heating element, and it’s a genuine fire risk.

Gas and Electric

We service both. Electric dryers most often need heating elements, thermal fuses, and thermostats. Gas dryers more often need igniters, flame sensors, and gas valve coils. Either way, we handle it.

More dryer problems trace back to airflow than to any single part. A vent line packed with lint makes your dryer work harder, run longer, and fail sooner — and it’s the leading cause of dryer fires in the U.S.

When we’re diagnosing a heating issue, we check the airflow path. If your vent is the actual problem, we’ll tell you rather than sell you a heating element that’ll fail again in six months.

Before You Call

Find your model number — usually inside the door frame, on the back panel, or under the lid.

Note what it’s doing. Does the drum turn? Does it get warm at all? Does it run and then stop? Is it gas or electric? That last one matters most for what we bring.
